Since time immemorial, Sri Lanka, the tropical island country of South Asia has been attracting Buddhist pilgrims. And, now with the global advancement of travel and tourism, it is inviting wildlife enthusiasts all the year round. For long time, the national parks in the country has been following the tradition of wildlife conservation and till date it abounds some exotic animal and bird species, which stands apart from any comparison.
Udawalawe National Park:
Situated 100 miles south-east of Colombo, the park is greatly known for herbal plant species. It sprawls over an area of 70, 000 acres and is home to diverse variety of flora and fauna. Wildlife enthusiasts here receives the chance to encounter herds of Asian Elephant, loitering in open air across the Uda Walawe rainwater reservoir. The park is also an abode to Jungle Cat, Langur, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Crocodile, Macaque etc.
Bird watchers can enjoy the twitters and actions of a number birds like Magam, Kiri Ibban, Indian darters, Kingfishers, Pulgaswewa, black-winged kites, hawk and lot more.
Yala National Park:
Yala is situated 200 miles away from Colombo and covers an area of 100, 000 hectares. It is among the oldest national parks in Srilanka and therefore plays a major role in conservation of wild flora and fauna in the country. The wild haven is home to more then 400 bird species and hence is a paradise to bird lovers. Other wild inhabitants of the park are marsh crocodile, buffalo, elephants and leopards.
The park is situated close to some historical places like Magul Maha Vihara, Kataragama, Sithulpahuwa etc and travelers receives additional punch with visiting here.
Bundala National Park:
A very popular eco-tourism destination, Bundala is situated 250 km southeast of Colombo in the Hambantota district. It covers an area of 6216 hectares and is home to 383 plant species, 32 diverse mammal species and a few variety of bird species. There are a number of migratory waterfowl in the park, which are a worth a watch.
Horton Plains National Park
This is the only park located at an highest plateau of Sri Lanka. The natural reserve is highly looked at by the eco-friendly tourist in Sri Lanka. The rolling hills, steeps of grassland spreads over 10, 000 hectares and is home to a great variety of flora and fauna. Giant Squirrel, Wild Hare, Leopard and Porcupine are some common species in the jungle. Some other places of interest within the park area are Chimmini Pool, Bakers Falls and the fantastic World’s End.

Do you think Insects play an important role in the Environment?
I already know that insects are very important to nature by pollinating flowers, creating valuable substances, and recycling nutrients. Not to mention the effect it has on larger animals such as birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and other fauna. But I want the internets opinion on how you agree or disagree that insects are vital for life. Also, name some wildlife animals that are also effected by beneficial insects. Best answer gets 10 points!
Okay yes if you take away insects there will be a huge impact. Almost all life (Except Plants) Will die.
3 reasons why.
1. If you take insects away the population of all living things goes up by 20% (Estimated by labs)
2. Many animals eat insects for there entire life.
3. Insects also help keep down Vegetation level.
What animals are affected. Well you have to consider. Theres a huge group of animals that eat insects only. If they die theres a major loss in the food for most carnivorous birds and animals. That causes there population to go down that causes even greater population that causes humans to revert to vegetation for everything they eat and the vegetation level wouldn’t be able to keep up with it and the world eventually runs out of food.
